What Is Obesity?
Obesity is a medical condition that occurs when excess body fat accumulates to such an extent that it can be dangerous to your health. Obesity is usually measured using the Body Mass Index (BMI), which is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms by your height in metres with the results expressed in kg/m. According to the BMI classification, a BMI between 25- 30 is considered overweight and anything above 30 is considered obese.
To fully treat obesity, a multi-disciplinary team should be involved in the treatment to ensure all aspects are covered. The Mental Health Company has adopted a multidisciplinary approach where we work with other health practitioners to ensure your treatment is a success. Obesity is a condition that should be treated immediately because of the negative impact it has on the rest of your life; it reduces life expectancy greatly and also increases the risk of developing other medical conditions and serious diseases. Obesity has been linked to increased incidences of hypertension (high blood pressure), type 2 diabetes, stroke, osteoarthritis, coronary heart disease and various cancers.
