James is a Counselling Psychologist who completed his doctoral training in Trinity College Dublin. During this training he worked in psychology services in St. James’s and St. John of God’s hospitals, providing assessment and therapeutic services to individuals 18 and older.
Additionally, he spent a year working in the child & family resource centre in Portlaoise, working with children and adolescents in various therapeutic capacities. Prior to this, he completed his B.A (Hons.) at the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY Buffalo) and has an M.S. in Mental Health Counselling at Manhattan College. He also interned and worked in a local community college in New York City as a counsellor for students from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
James is trained in various forms of evidence based practices, and utilizes techniques from CBT, as well as, humanistic and psychodynamic therapies. James’s research areas have been in expressive writing and stress of family members who care for mentally ill relatives.
