Amina’s Experience

Amina has nine years’ experience working in the area of counselling, psychotherapy and mental health. She has worked at Loreto Centre, Crumlin, a community-based counselling and psychotherapy Service. At Loreto Centre, Amina engaged with a variety of clients including those in the retirement community presenting with issues related to bereavement, loss, abandonment, childhood emotional neglect, depression, anxiety, trauma, suicidal ideation, physical or emotional abuse, low self-worth, the inner critic and life stage transitions. This laid a strong foundation for her work in therapeutic settings in private practice where she has worked for the last three years engaging with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, low self-worth, bereavement, psychosocial development, assertiveness, the inner child, identity and belonging.

Prior to her training as a counsellor and psychotherapist, Amina volunteered with Aware, an organisation to combat depression in Ireland. She facilitated weekly support groups in Cabinteely and Bray for people struggling with depression and anxiety.

Amina uses an Integrative and Humanistic therapeutic approach when working with clients. The foundation to this involves Person-Centred Therapy and Psychosynthesis. Integrated into this foundation are insights, theories, ideas and concepts from Attachment Theory, Grief and Loss Theory, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Psychosocial Development, Gestalt Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Amina has additional training in Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), depression, relational and physical Trauma, shame, suicidal ideation and self harm.

Amina’s goal is to facilitate her clients’ ability to grow and evolve whilst respecting their values, beliefs, personal resources and capability for self-determination. She does this by holding a confidential, safe and empathic space for her clients and thereby developing a deep therapeutic bond and relationship.
